The desire to run with the big dogs is what pushes the electric motorcycle industry to develop new products, because the realization of a battery powered dirt bike holding its own against a petrol powered moto is right around the corner. Alta Motors has been churning out cutting edge electric motorcycle technology since 2010, and their 2018 Redshift MXR seems to be the culmination of all those years of hard work.

Formed on the established Redshift platform, the MXR is a full blown motocross race bike aiming to knock on the door of mid sized 350cc class of gas fueled motos. Propelled by a 15 pound motor that throws down 50 horsepower and 147 lb•ft of torque instantly, the MXR has four ride modes to choose how you want the pant splitting power delivered. Juice is stored in a 5.8 kWh waterproof lithium ion pack that provides a stated range of over 4 hours in eco mode or 25 minutes of all out ripping in uncorked setting. Charging can be done in as little as 1.5 hours with their quick charger set up, meaning less time off the trail and more time pounding the whoops.

Purchase: $12,000+
