Sometimes we see custom vehicles that make our mouths water and have us chomping at the bit for a chance to drive them. Other times, we see ones that make us wonder what, exactly, was going on inside of the head of their builder. This steam-powered 6×6 Jeep JK by Kenny Hauk, appropriately named the Loco Hauk, is definitely both.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Kenny Hauk is the lead designer and builder behind Hauk Designs and the History Channel show Road Hauks. As such, this kind of vehicular insanity is well within his wheelhouse. Believe it or not, the Loco Hauk actually started off as a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 6×6, before going through a monumental custom transformation. This included swapping the stock engine for a V4 steam-powered engine – that only offers around 130-140 horsepower, but an absolutely absurd 2,500 foot-pounds of torque – fitting it with a BDS 4-inch 4-link suspension and Fox shocks, and loading up the tail end with a massive 55 gallon water tank to feed the necessary boiler. And that’s just the beginning, as there are so many more changes than are reasonable to list – including a full steampunk makeover to the exterior and cab. Even just as a showboat, this bonkers vehicle is off-the-charts impressive.
