Up until recently, complex dive computers were either extremely expensive or completely impractical. But, with the advent of smartwatch technology and advances in waterproofing, they’re finally within reach for more than just the incredibly wealthy. And now, one of the giants in the tech industry, Garmin, has introduced their own: the Descent MK1.
Boasting a lot of the normal smartwatch functions you might expect (like activity and fitness tracking), this watch also comes loaded with tech to help you both in and out of the water. They include GPS and GLONASS capabilities; single-gas, multi-gas, gauge, and apnea diving gear compatibility; the ability to store data from up to 10,000 dives; full-color TOPO mapping; and a battery life of between 19-40 hours (depending on the mode you use). And it comes in two finishes: silver sapphire with a black band or gray sapphire with a DLC titanium strap. Pricing starts at $1,000.
