Whether you count yourself as an aviation nerd, design geek, or just a fan of unique places to stay – it is hard not to get excited about the TWA Hotel.

When the JFK terminal was completed in 1962, it was among the best in the world. The building itself has been designed by Eero Saarinen, while different parts of the interior were all custom built by Midcentury Modern visionaries like Raymond Loewy, Warren Platner, and Charles Eames himself. Unfortunately, the terminal was closed down in 2001 after TWA declared bankruptcy for the third and final time. Now, however, more than 16 years after it shut its doors, a group of developers have undertaken the task of transforming this unique building into a boutique hotel. The developers are planning on building two adjacent buildings that’ll hold 505 rooms for guests, eight restaurants, and a museum highlighting how Midcentury design complemented the sky-high dreams of the then burgeoning air travel industry. Great design lives on.
