The 72 Hour Cabin

What makes us happy? The 72 Hour Cabin was built by a group of people trying to answer that exact question.

Half architectural project and half scientific exploration, this one room cabin located in Sweden is part of a study by the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. The folks running this experiment have a working hypothesis that Sweden’s uniquely high quality of life is due in large part to their superb natural landscapes. To test this, they’ve invited people who work in stressful jobs in London, Paris, Munich, and New York to spend 72 Hours in a glass enclosed room in the Swedish woods and plan to study the results. Now we’re not scientists, but it seems to us that they’re not doing a very good job of setting up a control group. This may have something to do with the fact that one of the partners in this ‘study’ is the Swedish Board of Tourism. Whatever. Any excuse to build such a gorgeous getaway in the woods is good enough reason for us.
