For a long time, outdoorsmen have had to choose between great gear, or good looks. In recent years, however, the choices being presented to hikers and climbers are looking less binary. Brands are getting better at striking a balance between a great aesthetic and top-tier performance. Take the Brise Pant from Foehn, for example.

To hear the Quebec-based company tell it, the primary goal in making these climbing pants was to create something that could just as easily be worn at a cafe as they could while trad climbing. Foehn achieved this goal by using a super functional four-way stretch fabric, cutting it into a slim fitting silhouette, and adding things like a phone pocket, crotch gusset, and articulated knees. In addition to these design choices, the guys at Foehn included a special modular ankle cuff making the pants ideal for wearing with climbing shoes or hiking boots. All things said, these are some of the coolest technical pants we’ve seen in a while.
