Ariel, the small British automaker responsible for the very small and incredibly quick Atom and off-road-focused Nomad, are again expanding their catalogue – this time both technologically and stylistically. Their newest endeavor, set to hit the market in 2020, is an electric hypercar – codename: P40.

Equipped with a revolutionary turbine range extender powertrain, this absurd little AWD 2-seater is slated to have a brake horsepower of 1,180 – giving it a 0-100 time of just 3.8 seconds off the line. The wheels are moved by four separate electric motors, each capable of 295 ponies, which are powered by a central-mounted 42kWh liquid-cooled battery. But that absurd quickness wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the P40’s 3527-pound aluminum monocoque chassis mounted with lightweight carbon fiber body panels. The official release of this ballistic missile on wheels is set to be sometime later this month at England’s Millbrook Proving Ground race track. [H/T: Autocar]
