Now known as the ‘Golden Years’ of rally car racing, group B spanned a short time in the ’80s that, unfortunately, ended in 1987. Sure, it was wildly dangerous and both the fans and drivers were more than a bit insane – but it was also entertaining and produced some killer vehicles. One such vehicle, however, never had its chance to shine: this 1985 Mazda RX-7 Evo Group B Works rally car.

Yes, Mazda’s RX-7 did actually have a chance to hit the races, but this particular example never even touched the track – thanks to the abrupt and tragedy-marred end to Group B. That does, however, bode well for collectors who are fans of rally cars, as it means this one is practically immaculate. The car originally had around 300 horsepower, which has likely waned a bit, though it has benefitted from a recent “light-touch” restoration to ensure that every detail is correct and in working order. In fact, this example is believed to be the only original example of this car in existence. It might even be the last unused Group B car left. And that makes it all the more special.
