Collaborating with the likes of Pharrell, The Weeknd, and Julian Casablancas of the Strokes (to name a small few); being sampled by Kanye West; getting tapped by Disney to do the entire Tron: Legacy soundtrack; and penning some of the most commercially successful electronic music ever has solidified Daft Punk’s spot in music history as one of the most influential groups of all time. But even they had to start somewhere. Namely, with their first album – Homework. And now, the Roland TR-909 drum machine used to write that very album is headed to auction.

The device itself is something truly special – as evidenced by the fact that Daft Punk used it in the first place. But what makes it even more unique is the fact that it still has the presets for the song “Revolution 909” programmed into it. Yes, the actual sounds that Thomas Bangalter programmed and used for the tune are still accessible to whomever gets their hands on the machine. But, this kind of historical rarity will likely come at great cost, as we imagine collectors all over will be chomping at the bit to get it.
