2017 Toyota HiLux Tonka Concept

In what may be every guy’s dream come true, Toyota just released info on their HiLux Tonka Concept truck. Yes, that’s correct. A real-life off-road Tonka truck brought to you by the good people at Toyota motors. Call it nostalgia, call it over-the-top. One thing’s for certain, though, this thing is downright amazing.

The whole project took place within Toyota Australia’s product planning and development division, otherwise known as a handful of dreamers. Under the Tonka adornments is a real beast though: the SR5 double cab HiLux equipped with a 2.8 liter four cylinder turbo diesel engine. Toyota Australia also lifted the ride about 6-inches, added a new front bar with off-road high performance LED lighting, and a new tailgate wrapped in carbon fiber that features an integrated spoiler with two air vents. The Tonka tribute also hosts a bash plate to protect what lies beneath, and a snorkel so fording a deep river crossing becomes a breeze. So what if this is just a one-off concept and Toyota doesn’t import the HiLux into the US, we still want one.
