2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck

Ford sure knows how to ride the line between making the ultimate off-road machines, and keeping their vehicles street-legal. After pulling the curtain back on the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Supercrew last month, the American auto maker has now unveiled a race version of the truck designed for the Best in the Desert competition.

While we still don’t know all of the truck’s specs, the company’s decision to enter the vehicle into this series nearly stock should be some indication as to the kind of power this thing will be packing. What we do know is this speed machine will come equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 producing north of 450 lb-ft of torque (we’re also assuming upwards of 400 HP) through a 10-speed transmission. Ford will be throwing in a set of racing seats complete with racing harnesses, window nets, LED light bar out front, fuel cell and a roll cage running through the interior cabin. Seeing that this specific iteration was built for traversing the desert, it will also include a navigational and data logging system. Though the brand remains cagey about the specifics – early reports suggest it could be nearly as fast as the new Mustang GT. [Via]
