Ford’s bringing back one of the greatest vehicles to ever hit the tarmac, reimagining the iconic Ford GT for the new year. Seeing that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the GT race cars, it only seems fitting that the American auto maker would pull the curtain back on the 2016 Ford GT during the Detroit Auto Show.

While the exterior is reminiscent of the legendary body from yesteryear, the powerplant and tech have been completely reengineered for the modern era. Equipped with a twin turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 engine, this beast pumps out more than 600 horsepower. The car is built entirely from both carbon fiber and aluminum, making it extremely lightweight without compromising the strength of the build. The mid-engine machine has been outfitted with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that shifts gears faster than the driver can blink, and a set of carbon ceramic brakes on all four corners behind the 20-inch wheels for a stop a dime control. Adjustable suspension is music to the automotive enthusiast’s ears, and a production date of late 2015 has this on the top of our Christmas wish list for the end of the year.
