BMW fans have been patiently waiting for the arrival of a proper M1 replacement, and the German-based brand has finally answered the call. Meet the 2016 BMW M2.
We’ll waste no time getting right to the good stuff here. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter turbo-charged inline six cylinder engine that’s pumping out an impressive 360 horsepower along with 343 lb-ft of torque. So how’s that power translate to actual performance? This little coupe will blitz from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, and reaches a top speed (limited) of 155 mph. It also clocked with a 7:58 time at Nurburgring , which means it’s faster than both the E92 M3’s time of 8:05, and the 1 M Coupe’s 8:12 time.
The new Bimmer has also been outfitted with integrated launch control, an active rear differential, lightweight aluminum suspension, M compound high performance brakes, and a set of 19-inch forged wheels wrapped in super sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. BMW also built out a GoPro app that will let you record your lap times when connected to an action camera. The M2 is available with your choice of a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual with automatic rev matching. No exact price point yet, but we’d expect it to come in somewhere in the mid $50,000 range.
