When you think of a VW Golf, you don’t think of a vehicle that was designed to tackle the backcountry. And that’s because you haven’t met the 2015 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack – yet.

The little car we all know and love has been extended into a wagon that has been given off-road capabilities thanks to permanent all-wheel drive and higher ground clearance. Long story short, this thing is fully capable, yet still economical. The 5-door will be available with four different engine options, which include three diesel and one gasoline power plant. The gas-powered engine is a 1.8-liter TSI producing 180-horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque, a set up good for a 0-62 mph time of 7.8 seconds along with a 135 mph top speed. On the diesel end, buyers can choose from a 1.6-liter engine with 110 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, or they can upgrade to the more powerful 2.0-liter powerplant – available in both a 150 hp/250 lb-ft or 184 hp/280 lb-ft option. The price of this off-road crossover is yet to be determined.
