Craft Check Beer App

If you think buying a bottle of Shock Top, Blue Moon, or Redd’s Apple Ale is throwing some money to the underdogs in the industry, think again. Those three beers, and many others, appear to be craft beers, but nope; they’re owned by corporate giants like AB-Inbev and SABMiller/MolsonCoors, who are practicing a little bit of trickery to cash in on the craft beer craze.

Coming to the rescue of the confused shopper is Craft Check, a $0.99 iPhone app that tells you whether that six-pack is indeed from an independent brewery, or just another pretender. Simply scan the barcode of the beer in question or search by brewery to instantly find out whether it’s real or an imposter. The app’s database is also updated monthly with details on new breweries, buyouts, and changes in the beverage industry. [Purchase]
