Lumio Unfolding LED Book Lamp

Sounding a little bit like Mario and Luigi’s long lost brother, but thankfully with none of the extravagant facial hair, is Lumio: an LED lamp that looks like a book when it’s closed, but opens up to yield an impressive cascade of light.

San Francisco architect Max Gunawan designed the device, and was smart enough to make it cordless, as well as infused with magnets to automatically turn the light on and off when the cover is opened or closed. The hardwood cover locks the lamp down to any metal surface, and the lithium-ion battery promises to last up to 8 hours per charge. The paper inside Lumio is also untearable, should you feel the urge to throw a Bowser-style tantrum. Choose from Blonde Maple, Warm Cherry or Dark Walnut finishes. [Purchase]
