Sure we love 10,000 square feet mansions as much as the next man, but there’s a lot to be said about this humble, $20,000 DIY home built by couple Chris and Melissa.

This tiny wood home was built entirely by hand, and took a whopping 800 hours for the couple to complete the build. Built atop a 7 feet by 20 feet trailer frame, the home may be small, but it provides everything one needs to live. A fully functional kitchen, bathroom with shower, and living space all reside on the lower level of the dwelling, while a small ladder between the kitchen and living space leads to the sleeping quarters – a queen size bed loft. The home feels much more spacious than it actually is, and that’s thanks largely in put to the 10 (plus skylight) that adorn the property, providing plenty of natural sunlight to enter the home. To help keep the home warm during the colder months in the year, the couple used cedar siding and natural wool insulation, while solar panels fuels the home, and a propane tank provides cooking power.
