After many years and thousands of miles busting baddies, most police motorcycles are laid to rest, too run-down to be worth the time and money needed for maintenance. Occasionally, however, there comes a bike that’s skirted its duties more than others, one that’s had enough of upholding the law and instead wants to let loose.
Just take this 2000 BMW R850 RT-P, for instance. Sure, it may have started out as just one law enforcement officer mule amongst many, but after the diligent efforts of UNIKAT Motorworks, the bike was reborn as a retro-inspired scrambler custom. Free of its bulky bodywork, the R850 now wears a high-mount front fender as well as an entirely new subframe, a chunky leather seat, and a bespoke exhaust system. What’s more, UNIKAT has fitted it with an old-school fuel tank taken from an R65, adding to it a built-in storage compartment, a fuel pump, and a Motogadget speedo. Complemented by a refreshed cockpit complete with bar-end handguards and LED indicators, it makes for quite the marked upgrade. And, if all that weight-saving wasn’t enough, UNIKAT even gave the boxer a once-over and shod the wheels in a set of grippy off-road tires. Check it out below.
