It’s always nice to see a bike outfit based out of a favorite city of yours put together a build that’s completely off-the-wall different. Classified Moto, based out of Richmond, VA, accomplished just that with their build out of a 1996 Honda XR650L. As a straight-up middle finger to armchair builders, the BW650 stands up for what Classified Moto claims are the under-appreciated ‘real motorcyclists.’ The adventurers.
In addition to turning heads, Classified Moto wanted to create something the handled predictably and with safety for aggressive riding both on and off the road. In doing so, they’ve taken this build to the dunes in Pismo Beach, CA, off-road on various dirt trails, hopping city curbs, and drafting semis at freeway speeds on highways. And yes, in case you were wondering, it’s 100 percent street legal.
As for the specs, those monstrous tires are STI Black Diamonds carrying a modified Honda CN185T tank, and a full CM custom stainless exhaust system and intake. Classified Moto also created a custom upholstered waxed canvas and leather seat for comfort and installed a 2006 Triumph Sprint ST swing arm as well. Though these little beasts aren’t currently on the market, Classified Moto hopes to sell about 15 over the course of the next few years. Here’s to seeing some on the road.
