Taking its name from the minimum number of production units needed to satisfy homologation requirements, Ford’s RS200 is a fabled Group B car and one of the most revered rally racers of all time. Of the 200 examples produced, only two dozen of them were Evolution-spec models, making these the rarest and most sought-after RS specimens in the world — which is why the news of a 1986 Evo example surfacing for sale is noteworthy.
Boasting an extensive competition history, this 1986 RS200 Evolution reportedly raced in more rallies than any other RS200 of the era — having been campaigned in the WRC, ERC, Dutch, Belgian, Nordic and Asia Pacific Rally Championships — and is also one of the most successful, having amassed five race wins in its debut year, as well as overall victories in the ’86 Dutch and West Euro Rally Championships. Originally supplied to Team Belga, this ’86 example — which is Chassis No.61— features a genuine EVO 2.1 engine putting down 760bhp and 535ft-lbs of torque and is sold with a collection of spare parts. Good for sub-3-second 0-60mph times and a nearly 170mph top speed, this mid-engined rally car previously wore the red and white Belga colors, but has since been adorned in the classic Ford Works livery. This 1986 Ford RS200 Evolution is currently for sale at Speedart Motorsports in Miami, Florida where the price is available upon request.
