1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40

When it comes to Japanese SUVs, nothing is as classic or Iconic as the Toyota Land Cruiser. Originally based on the classic Willys Jeep, they were once military-only vehicles, before garnering legendary status as extremely capable off-roaders. Nowadays, it’s hard to track down an early model in passable condition — but not impossible. In fact, the folks at Hyman LTD. have just put this pristine 1981 FJ40 up for sale.

A hardtop example, this particular offering is remarkably original. It even still has the same 4.2-liter 2F inline-six cylinder engine it was given at birth — capable of 135 horsepower and 217 foot-pounds of torque. It has, however, benefitted from a complete restoration, though the folks who sorted it were careful not to overdo it. They even managed to salvage the original steering wheel, gear lever gaiters, and push-button “ToCars” AM radio. And, to complete the classic look, they’ve equipped it with beefy, period-correct Firestone Super Traction ND off-road tires. This baby can be yours for $67,500.
