Hertz’s “Rent-A-Racer” program of the late 1960s — which called upon Shelby to build a number of high-powered Ford Mustang pony cars for the rental service — was an absolutely bonkers idea. But it spawned the now-legendary GT350 H, a car that will go down in the annals of history as perhaps the most beautiful mistake a rental car company ever made. And now an ultra-rare example in incredible condition is up for sale.
Done up in a gorgeous Gulfstream Aqua with the signature yellow Hertz striping and a white vinyl interior, this immaculate pony car is just one of just 19 to come in this sought-after colorway. But the fact that this one came with an FMX Cruise-O-Matic transmission makes it even rarer, as only five like this were ever made. Of course, alongside that you also still get its monstrous V8 engine — which was said to produce as much as 450 horsepower — as well as all the other bits that make this car so fantastic. Drive off in it yourself for $85,000.
