People like to argue that all products – from cars to ovens – were just made better way back in the day. It’s an intuitive argument to make seeing that most things from the 1950s and 1960s we see around today are still working, but it’s not exactly correct. What is made well lasts, what isn’t doesn’t. Poorly made vehicles from the mid-century have faded, while a truck like the Mercedes UNIMOG is still alive and kicking.

The fourth of only 1,210 to roll off the assembly line, this rare truck has weathered the past 60 plus years with ease. Sporting a M180 Gasoline engine hooked up to a manual 6 speed transmission, this 5,500 pound truck can still pop around off-road thanks to its 17 inches of ground clearance and 4×4 drive. Due to its low center of gravity and minimal overhang on the rear and front of the truck – it can take approach and departure angles at up to 45 degrees. Not bad for an old work horse. Right now the vehicle is up for sale at $28,000 as is, or if you want a better than new full frame restoration, you can pick it up for $140,000. [Purchase]
