Samsung is leading the charge in making terabyte-SSDs for consumers, further raising the bar for in-home technology. Although Samsung recently unveiled a 30TB SSD, that particular drive is made for cloud companies and enterprises, so it’s quite impressive that Samsung is mass producing the storage industry’s first 4-bit 4TB SSDs for consumers.
Their 4TB SSD will perform in the same manner as their 3-bit SSD, with the new drives featuring sequential read speeds of 540MB/s and write speeds of 520MB/s. These drives are also the industry’s first to use 4-bit V-NAND memory tech, which is what allows the quad-level cells to pack more memory in the same amount of space as 3-bit cells while running at the same speeds. This means they’re fast enough to capture and playback RAW 4K video files. We’re eagerly waiting for the price point to drop, but we do know that the drive will be available later this year and will come with a 3-year warranty.
