Living On Water

More than maybe any other element, humans have a special draw to water. Some of our biggest cities and most beatiful homes are located at the water’s edge. Living On Water, a new book from Phaidon’ editors, is dedicated to the latter.

This 272-paged hardback book from the London-based publisher highlights 55 homes in 3 different chapters titled Built To Look At Water, Built On Water, and Built To Reflect Water. While each home is connected by the contemporary style in which they’re built, the book does offer a broad survey of buildings. The 341 illustrations in the coffee-table-book cover homes from overseas, brutalist buildings, and oddities that feel more experiment than living space. Details on each house – the architecture firm that designed it, their location, the materials used – are included in the text accompanying the building’s photographs and illustrations. All things said, a great book for daydreaming about your next beach Airbnb.
