Filson knows a thing or two about rain. They’ve been dealing with it ever since they set up shop in Seattle way back in 1897, a part of the world that receives on average 152 rainy days a year. So it stands to reason then that the newest additions to their Technical Rainwear collection, the Swiftwater Rainshell Jacket and Neoshell Reliance, are more than capable of taking on the wettest of weather.
Both of the jackets boast a super waterproof and breathable shell, waterproof zippers, taped seams, and hand warper pockets for keeping your digits from getting too frigid. Where the two differ is in type of fabric they use to keep you dry. The more affordable Swiftwater model uses a 2.5-layer nylon ripstop shell that cuts through rain while also allowing a good deal of breathability. On the higher end is the Reliance jacket that uses a special 3-layer NeoShell fabric that manages to be not only waterproof and breathable – but wind-resistant, too. The jacket also features an adjustable hood that can be stowed away when the sun peaks through the clouds.
