Carroll Shelby’s 1966 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350H

Carroll Shelby had a knack for designing some of history’s most iconic race cars, and to nobody’s surprise, he also fostered his passion for hammering into the turns late into his life. As for his favorite cars, this 1966 Shelby Ford Mustang GT350H must have been near to his heart as he purchased it from its second owner and held onto it in his private collection until his death in 2012.

First being delivered as a special edition rental car for Hertz of San Diego in 1966, as part of their rent-a-racer partnership with Ford and Shelby, it was later scooped up by Mike Shoen, a resident of Vancouver, Washington. Shoen hopped up the already sporty GT350H with some choice components from an earlier model year, including an instrument cluster with a tach and oil pressure gauge, head covers, and R-Model style wheels. This is the point where Carroll acquires the car and relishes his time spent with the machine before being put on display at Shelby Automobiles in Las Vegas. Of the 999 units produced by Ford and Shelby under the GT350H tagline, the personal driver of the legend himself stands out as possibly the most sought after example in existence.
