Jaws is not what comes to mind when one thinks of films with iconic watches. James Bond, Apollo 13, and Le Mans, sure – but a movie about a giant man-eating shark? Well apparently some sharp-eyed horology nerds spotted one handsome dive watch – and now it’s back for a limited release. Introducing the Alsta Nautoscaph II.
Worn by actor Richard Dreyfuss’ character Matt Hooper in the 1976 blockbuster directed by Steven Spielberg, this timepiece stood out on screen as being both rugged and handsome. This re-issue of the watch has many of the same specs as the original. It features a 40mm 316L brushed stainless steel case and domed hardened mineral crystal glass that encase a black dial with Super-LumiNova markings, a date window, and three hands. Those hands are driven around the watch’s face by an automatic Seiko NH35A 24 jewel movement that keeps ticking as far down as 1,000 feet under water. Only 300 of these have been made (each features a serial engraved not he casebook), so get one before they get gobbled up.
