In case you can’t tell from their name, Death Machines of London is a group of folks who aren’t afraid to make a statement. However, their boldness – and not apparent blasé attitude – is what shines through in their motorcycles. In fact, if you take a look at what went into this Moto Guzzi Airtail build, you’ll see that they actually take their work quite seriously.
The first step in the custom rebuild of this 1981 Lemans Mk II was that it was completely stripped down and disassembled in order to be vapor blasted and, subsequently, undergo a forensic inspection of all its original parts. The dash instruments were then completely restored, before being inserted into their new home: a bespoke indicator panel fit with 1940 Merlin Spitfire aviation warning lights and main switch. The 950cc engine has been refit with a lighter balanced crankshaft, all-new valves, and house-made gas flowed cylinder heads. It also features a pair of 40mm Dellorto carbs with accelerator pumps, as well as a lightweight R.A.M. clutch and flywheel. The entire bike is a work of, what the brand calls, “refined minimalism.” Whatever they want to call it, one thing is for sure: this bike is a beaut.
