It looks like Audi has finally decided to throw their hat in the ring with brands such as Cadillac, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Land Rover. Because, at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, they revealed their newest vehicle concept: a full-sized luxury SUV called the Q8. And while it is just a concept, the brand has already confirmed that it is the basis for a production model that will hit the market in 2018.
Even amongst SUVs, the Q8 has an imposing silhouette at 16.5 feet long, 6.7 feet wide, and with a wheelbase of 9.8 feet. And that offers plenty of head and legroom to both driver and passengers, despite the more sleek and sloping coupe-style roofline. And while the exterior styling and in-cabin tech (touchscreen cockpit controls and contact-analogue head-up display) is plenty impressive, it’s what’s under the hood that has us wanting more. This luxury SUV features a plug-in lithium-ion and combustion hybrid engine that’s capable of producing 333 horsepower and a total of 516.3 foot-pounds of torque – giving it a zero-to-62.1 time of 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 155.3 MPH. That’s crazy impressive for a vehicle that gets 102.3 miles to the gallon. We just hope that when they reveal the final road-ready version it still resembles this concept. [Purchase]
