Alpine Shelter by OFIS

In an effort to study the architecture necessary to weather some of our planet’s most extreme and hostile conditions OFIS – a firm based out of Slovenia – decided to airlift this cabin onto the top of Mount Kanin near the country’s small resort town of Bovec. It’s a compact dwelling no doubt, developed in collaboration with several structural engineers who worked closely with the firm.

The tiny cabin, boasting more of an architectural feat than luxurious interior accommodations, can sleep up to nine individuals looking for protection from the relentless wind and snow that plagues the mountaintop for half the year. It’s organized into three resting platforms on the inside, with a large window in front of the cabin that provides a jaw-dropping 360-degree view of the mountain valley extending outward into greater Slovenia and Italy. The site is only accessible by foot or helicopter and while we highly doubt you can reserve a night for two in this tiny cabin, it does get us excited for winter hiking expeditions nonetheless.
