Patagonia Provisions Long Root Ale

It was only a matter of time before outdoor apparel brands started partnering up with local breweries to release special edition craft ales for their customers to enjoy. In this instance the brand is Patagonia and the brew house is Hopworks Urban Brewery based out of Portland, Oregon. Together, they’re launching Long Root Ale, a Northwest-Style Pale Ale made from Kernza, a super-wheat perennial grain that’s related to an ancient form of wheatgrass.

In addition to the 15 percent Kernza grain added to offer a slight spiciness to the finish, Long Root hosts a grain bill of two-row barley, organic yeast and Northwest hops. Drinkers will find a flavor profile full of earthy resins complemented nicely by grapefruit hops aromas that work to balance out the sweetness of the malt. Interested beer lovers can expect to find Long Root Ale in 16 oz cans at Whole Food Markets on the West Coast beginning today, October 3. Those with a penchant for growlers can also get the beer on draft at those locations as well. Prices depend on availability. [Purchase]
