1976 Land Cruiser FJ 40 Hot Rod

Few fans of the off-roading world have any beef to pick with the Toyota Land Cruiser. They’ve been around for some time now, originating with the iconic builds of the ‘70s. So when Allers Rods & Customs, based out of South Africa, decided to put together a rat rod for the SA backcountry they decided to use the body of a 1975 Land Cruiser, and then some.

So after plentiful hours of intense labor, this wild looking hot rod is what came out the other end. The front suspension was completely built in-house, and the widened wheels and differential came from a Land Rover Discovery, the seats are from a Jeep Wrangler, and headlights from a VW Golf 1. AR&C also installed a Lexus radio, Momo steering wheel, and a roll cage to keep everything, including the driver, safe in transit. For the powerplant, Allers decided on a 300hp 1UZ Lexus V8 that when combined with this lightweight hot rod, gets things going quite fast. And to top everything off, it was painted with the original 1976 Toyota paint codes, keeping the Land Cruiser in sync with its roots.
