The list of movies Steve McQueen turned down reads like a Hollywood Hall of Fame: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Ocean’s 11, Apocalypse Now, The French Connection, A Bridge Too Far. But one thing the “King of Cool” could never pass up was a potent sports car. This 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera was in fact McQueen’s very last special order Porsche, and it’s going on Mecum’s auction block.
Featuring a rare, early production, non-intercooled 3.0 liter engine and a custom color of Slate Gray, this car will indeed fetch a pretty penny. Perhaps the most McQueenesque thing about it: a dashboard switch he added to kill the rear lights in case he was being chased on Mulholland Drive. The 8″ front and 9″ rear wheels were also added by McQueen. Other highlights include a sunroof, dual mirrors, positraction, and a black interior with sport seats. [Purchase]
