While we have been focusing on the luxury and performance vehicles introduced at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, Toyota has been bringing some ground breaking innovation to the automotive scene with the introduction of their Toyota i-Road Personal Mobility Vehicle.
The enclosed electric vehicle seats two individuals tandem style, and is powered by a pair of 2 kW elecric motors attached to the front wheels. Toyota is rolling out their new ‘Active Lean’ technology with this vehicle, which is much like the way a rider would maneuver his motorcycle but with automatic balancing provided through the system. The three wheeled machine is ultra compact, and allows drivers to fit up to four of these into a single car parking spot. Toyota is definitely looking to compete directly with the motorcycle with this vehicle, offering drivers a much safer alternative than its 2 wheeled counterpart. The only drawback at this time is the fact that this thing only gets 30 miles on a single charge.
