Video games are something that we will never get over, no matter how old we get. Sure that might have made you a loser 10 years ago, but this is a new generation. We are a generation raised with technology, and video games being one of the biggest driving forces of technology, it comes as no surprise that the 80s and 90s babies are still playing Xbox Live well into their adulthood while still holding down respectable jobs and raising families.
With that being said, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, with curator and authors Chris Melissionos and Patrick O’Rourke decided to pay homage to the video game culture with their The Art Of Video Games exhibition running through September 30th. Once just simple play toys, video games have made the crossover into the world of culture and art, and this book will take you on that journey over the 40 years since the first Magnavox Odyssey pixel back in 1972.
